Okay, I realise that I'm well out of date and all with this post, especially considering that the second game has been out for more than six months already. Anyway, I started playing this two days ago and I can't believe how much fun it is.

It's a simple, no nonsense game, but funny throughout and extremely playable. I'm nowhere near finishing it yet, hell, I'm only partway across the third chapter so far (hey, I'm nowhere as quick as Thyri in these things... :)) I've not even ventured online either, but I'll dobtless report back once that is done.

Okay, the story isn't that new, the film Kelly's Heroes springs to mind, but I'll forgive it that. I also doubt very many folks out there could get through this all first time around, let alone complete one level without getting killed once, not with all those surprise tanks and helicopters popping up all over the show. Luckily very few games require that level of expertise. I found the interior modelling of the houses to be a bit too similar, but that is a minor detail really.

so, I thought I'd just let anyone who hasn't tried it yet, know that even though the game's two years old, it's very well worthwhile getting into. I'm already looking forward to getting number 2 and giving it a whirl ;D

Oh how I love hearing people say they like this game.  :D  As I may have mentioned before this was the first game I bought for my PS3 (aside from MGS4 that came with the system).  Can you imagine how my eyes opened wide at the graphics, destruction, exciting gameplay, and downright funny script/acting?  I really liked Sweetwater and Haggard.  I'd sit there like a goofball smiling broadly when Sarge is telling you some instructions and Haggard and Sweetwater are still bickering or discussing some inane topic, Haggard giving Sweetwater a wet willy lol.  I remember losing our vehicle and having to walk to the next objective and the light banter from the guys came so naturally.

So glad you're enjoying it Jim!  :-X

Oh yeah, definitely enjoying it... ;D

Now, odd you should mention the environmental objects as Thyri was back playing Far Cry 2 earlier on today and I noticed how less evolved they were in that game. BFBC's tables, chairs, busses - all that kind of stuff came in far better. Okay, FC2's feel for light and atmosphere is truly stunning, so it's swings and roundabouts really I suppose as to what the Devs choose to focus on.

BFBC's use of a destructible environment though is a strong feature, something that I appreciated very much in two of the games we got with our PS3, namely Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2.

I did notice with a chuckle on Friday when taking one building at the neutral country's docks, how a chair visible through the doorway was rocked back by the shockwave when I launched a grenade in through a window further along.

BFBC and Far Cry 2 were my top games that first 9 months of owning my PS3.  I loved them both for different reasons.  As you mention the atmosphere, day/night, and weather in FC2 were great. Really a great game.  I do agree destruction would have made it better, but what it aimed to do it did extremely well.

Funny note about the grenade there because I felt throwing grenades in BFBC worked so well.  Many times playing online I'd aptly toss a grenade through a second story window to flush out snipers....throw it...wait for it...then in a Russion accent from within "grenade!"...Boom!

Oh and another great trick was when capturing the flag in a couple spots it'd work great to place C4 in a doorway then hide on the stairs,  as soon as you see an enemy enter you blow them and half the wall to oblivion!

I finally got around to watching the BC1 trailers.  :D :D :D

They dropped a lot of the humor out of the second one didn't they?  :-\

oh man, I didn't realize you never played the first game.  Yeah overall I liked the first game's campaign better than the second, primarily because of the humor and banter among the squad.

Me neither  :D

Go out...today, and find yourself a copy...and then play it! The only solution.

True, there's no guarantee how much longer the online portion will survive, as already discussed, but the single player campaign will be rewarding enough and a copy of the game has just got to be cheap. It's also a fun way to pass the time before BF3...

Well, close to a year after my last post I can report that BF:BC is still alive and kicking online!

I really thought with BF3 out there it would have petered out but no, there are still some high-ranks playing along with noobs like myself. I had quite a lot of fun actually and got to play a map that I've never seen before, the Golf course.

I love the golf course map!  That's great that there is still activity.  I should go online with it once in awhile.  Everything from the intro with the grenade and bars of gold and the menu music just give me chills I loved that game so much.  Harvest Day is another one of my favorites.

Is Harvest Day DLC? I don't think I've been on that one yet. I was on again briefly today, got quite a respectable score (for me) but the PS froze right before the mactch ended, so I lost the lot... :(

No, I don't think Harvest Day was DLC.  And the Golf Course definitely was in the update of free DLC, so you should have everything I would guess.  Too bad on that freeze.

Oh I gotta check that link later - that could be great if done right.  Hard to see it as a TV show though, vs. a movie, but hey I'm in.

hmm, the story takes place after the game(s)? or maybe not necessarily even related?  Well, color me interested, moreso than for most TV shows announced.
